Supporting and valuing health and care staff has never been so important, particularly in light of this year’s winter pressures, austerity, and Brexit; but what does that support actually look like? How do we support and value health and care staff? 

In May 2016 the Chief Nursing Officer for England Professor Jane Cummings (@JaneMCummings) launched "Leading Change, Adding Value -A framework for nursing midwifery and care staff" The framework aims to encourage us all to "reach further, both individually and collectively" setting out "shared ambitions and commitments that demonstrate our leadership potential and the role we can and must play" Commitment 6 addresses supporting and valuing health and care staff:



But how do we realise this commitment? What actions can we take? What currently works well? And how can we learn from this?

Here are some thoughts, from a range of people, on what valuing and supporting health and care staff means to them:







This #WeNurses discussion is being held in conjunction with the Nursing Directorate at NHS England and aims to explore valuing health and care staff by asking:

  • How can we support and value staff ?
  • How can we help staff to be resilient in challenging times?
  • What makes a difference? (big or small)
  • How can we realise Commitment 6 from Leading Change, Adding Value?
  • How can we share what works well?
