Through Twitter, a great connection has come together of Midwives, Student Midwives, Leaders and professionals, all involved with delivering safe maternity services throughout the UK.

It is apparent from conversations currently taking place that everyone’s experiences differ and that there is representation from a multitude of different clinical areas.

I am particularly interested in Homebirth and Midwifery led care settings and the way environment impacts on the unique dance of hormones at the time of labour and birth.

I appreciate how challenging it can be tocreate similar environments in the obstetric care settings and the hospital ‘delivery suites’ as they are now.

I know there are many health care professionals that appreciate the importance of birth environment and are doing immense things for individual women in their daily practice.  Some of these things occur behind closed doors and are unique to that one person. 

I wanted to create a conversation in which we can share these variations in practice and hopefully draw on experience and ideas that we can all take back to our clinical areas to use.  It is my hope that this conversation will also create a network of individuals that are thinking outside the box, to show that you are not alone in your efforts to bring a positive birthing environments to your unit.
