The 18th March 2018 will see National CSE Awareness Day uniting organisations across the country in committing to highlighting the issues around Child Sexual Exploitation.

As always we are keen to provide a forum to explore such topics hence in preparation for a week National CSE Awareness day we are pleased to be supporting a professional discussion guest hosted by @Eileenbzw supported by the Sandwell CSE Health Group made up of representatives across health and partner organisations at 12 Midday on the 16th March 2018.  

All are invited to join to discuss the issues facing professional working with children young people and families and CSE as will as taking the opportunity to share good practice already in place.

Sandwell CCG will be taking the opportunity to share the success of the the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Superhero campaign, this is an innovative project developed by Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (SWB CCG) in partnership with The Children’s Society, and is fully endorsed by NHS England.  To raise awareness among healthcare professionals about CSE, SWB CCG funded and commissioned the ‘Know the Signs’ film. https://www.chatback.org.uk/know-the-signs.htm  The film, starring Josie Lawrence, was produced by ‘Chatback’, who are a group of looked-after or birth children of foster carers. It was premiered at a health CSE learning event and has since been approved by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). 

The CSE Superhero theme was developed as a response to a mother’s plea at a National Safeguarding Conference, where she spoke passionately about her daughter who was murdered whilst supporting a friend who was a victim of CSE. The call from the victim’s family was for health professionals to become ‘Superheroes’ and help tackle CSE. To help support health professionals, SWB CCG have collaborated with The Children’s Society to produce a training toolkit that accompanies the film. In a report by the Center of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse, research has shown that regular learning and on-going professional development for clinicians and involving practitioners in the design of services, are ways to cascade strategic approaches and practical expertise on CSE to front line practitioners. The aim of this campaign is to urge healthcare professionals to Consider the Signs and Explore by becoming CSE Superheroes.
