Quality of life (QOL) in patients living with a stoma is an important health issue. It could be postulated that a lack of understanding into which factors influence QOL stoma surgery and the key times at which patients may experience issues, hinders the ability of stoma care nurses to provide appropriately timed support and interventions to improve QOL.

We will be exploring the following questions during the tweetchat:
- In your experience what can be the key issues which impact on the QoL of ostomates ?
- What can we do within our services to ensure we understand ‘what matters to you’ and to be responsive when key challenges arise?
- This is an example of an always event - imagine if this was community longterm stoma care follow up services - what might this look like?

I have often guided my patient's to the stoma support groups/Charities and the information and support they have received has been invaluable. #StomaNursesAddingValue

Aside from providing them with leaflets and explaining to them the challenges of their new situation, facilitating a network of new and old ostomates will be very helpful. I believe having this support will help both old and new patients cope better.
